Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region

Tropical Storm Doksuri will continue moving northwestward and toward southwestern China on Sunday. The system will lose strength as it makes landfall just west of Hong Kong and Macau, and is expected to reduce to tropical depression strength. As the system reduces in intensity, flow around it will continue pushing warm and moist air onshore, producing moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms as well as strong winds. Hong Kong will see showers and thunderstorms with highs near 30 degrees Celsius.
At the same time, a trough of low pressure will move off the Tibetan Plateau and kick up showers and thunderstorms across southern and central China. To the north, Beijing will remain dry with partly cloudy skies and highs in mid-30s C.
To the north, a low pressure system continues moving through the Sea of Japan, pushing abundant moisture into Japan. This will produce widespread showers and thunderstorms across most of Japan, with heaviest storms anticipated across northern Japan. Tokyo will see partly cloudy skies with a chance of showers and highs in the low 20s C.
Near Australia, a cyclone has developed east of far northern Queensland. This system is expected to slowly move westward, bringing moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms across Papau New Guinea. It is expected to weaken to a tropical depression. Elsewhere, high pressure will dominate most of Australia, allowing for warm and dry conditions to persist.
