Frenchman Gregory Bourdy earned a late share of the first-round lead at the Irish Open on Thursday as home favorite Rory McIlroy's sloppy finish saw him slip five shots off the pace.
Bourdy matched Jeev Milkha Singh's 7-under 65 and was in the last group to finish on a rain and lightning-delayed opening day at Royal Portrush. Singh birdied six of his first nine holes for the clubhouse lead before a 90-minute break for weather and Bourdy's late charge.
Former U.S. Open champion McIlroy bogeyed two of his last three holes to slip to 2-under and a tie for 52nd.
McIlroy's Northern Irish compatriot and fellow major winner Graeme McDowell finished on 1-under 71 after a double-bogey seven on No. 17. John Daly was alongside McIlroy on 2-under-par 70.
