Vincenzo Nibali won the Spanish Vuelta two years ago and followed up with a third place in the Giro d'Italia last season. Enjoying the support of two of the most respected riders in the peloton, the Italian rider is looking for another podium finish in a three-week race, this time in the most prestigious one.
The Liquigas rider is among the fistful of riders regarded as potential Tour de France winners this year, but the race course, which features two long time trials and more than 100 kilometers against the clock, does not suit his natural abilities.
To become the first Italian winner of the Tour since the late Marco Pantani in 1998, Nibali knows he will have to mount relentless attacks in the mountains.
