Police, hardline Serbs clash in Kosovo

Kosovo police say at least half a dozen policemen were slightly injured in a scuffle with a crowd of Serb hardliners who were deported out of Kosovo because they carried nationalistic messages that were deemed as provocative for the ethnic Albanian majority.
A group of some 70 Serbs were led out of Kosovo early Thursday and pelted police with rocks in protest to their deportation, police said in a statement.
Serbs are marking the anniversary of a medieval battle they lost to invading Ottoman forces in 1389. Hardliners from Serbia gather on the site of the battle in the outskirts of the capital to mark the occasion. Kosovo police step up security measures ahead of the date to prevent clashes with ethnic Albanians.
Serbia rejects Kosovo's 2008 declaration of independence.
