TransAsia launches regular Taoyuan-Osaka flights

Taipei, June 28 (CNA) TransAsia Airways formally launched a new service between Taoyuan and the Japanese city of Osaka on Thursday. It is the carrier's first regular passenger service to Japan and its first new international route this year. The airline will draw on its charter flight experience to tap into Japanese market, said TransAsia Airways Chairman Lin Ming-sheng at the inaugural ceremony at Kansai International Airport in Japan. However, TransAsia will adopt a more innovative and efficient approach to boost its passenger business in the summer, he said. The airline will operate one daily flight between Taoyuan and Osaka, leaving from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 8:10 a.m. and from Osaka at 12:40 p.m. The maiden flight on the route was more than 90 percent full and the booking rate for flights up to mid-July is 70 percent on average, the airline said. It said most of the bookings so far for the Taoyuan-Osaka flights are by tour groups but it hopes to attract more individual passengers. (By Wei Shu and Lilian Wu)
