Taiwanese youth ambassadors to promote ties with Africa

Taipei, June 28 (CNA) Five groups of Taiwanese students in a youth ambassador program will travel to African countries this summer to promote cultural exchanges, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday. Among the groups is a team form National Ilan University that embarked June 25 on a trip to Burkina Faso, where they will introduce Taiwan folk dances, Hsu Mien-sheng, director-general of the ministry's Department of African Affairs, said at a news briefing. Another group, comprising students from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, will visit The Gambia to share Taiwan's design creativity and recycling techniques, Hsu said. "Each group has its own specialty," Hsu said, adding that the groups will stay 14 days on average in the host countries. Other groups of Taiwanese students will travel to South Africa, Swaziland and Sao Tome and Principe, he said. This year's youth ambassador program has drawn the participation of 43 groups from 25 universities and colleges around Taiwan for travel to more than 30 countries, the ministry said.
