16 Puerto Ricans accused of drug trafficking

A federal grand jury has indicted 16 people accused of trying to import $17 million worth of cocaine and heroin into Puerto Rico.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement Wednesday that the suspects ran a drug-trafficking ring from April 2008 to November 2011. They are accused of trying to import a total of 26,000 kilograms (57,300 pounds) of cocaine and 1,800 kilograms (3,970 pounds) of heroin.
The suspects face a minimum of 10 years in prison if found guilty.
