Spain and Portugal are going to extra time at 0-0 after 90 minutes in the European Championship semifinals.
Spain midfielder Xavi Hernandez had the first shot on target in the 67th minute of a tight match.
Cristiano Ronaldo looked sharp whenever he touched the ball and drilled a low shot wide of the post in the first half, but failed to test goalkeeper Iker Casillas with two free kicks in the second half. Ronaldo sent another shot over in the 90th.
Tempers frayed at times, with Portugal center half Pepe getting a yellow card for a challenge on Xabi Alonso as they went for a high ball. Sergio Ramos and Nani also went in with heavy challenges late on.
