7 legislators visit Dongsha Islands to reward officers and men

A delegation made up of members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Legislative Yuan is inspecting the Dongsha Islands in the South China Sea. A total of seven legislators were in the group that took off from Taipei’s Songshan Airport expected at 9:00am May 10. KMT Legislators Lin Yu-fang and Chan Kai-chen led an inspection tour of Taiping Island recently.
This week, it falls to the DPP and Legislator Chen Tang-shan, the party convenor, to visit the Dongsha Islands and check out conditions there.
The delegation of seven legislators includes KMT legislators Chan Kai-chen and Chen Chen-hsiang as well as DPP legislators Mark Chen, Tsai Huang-lang, Hsueh Ling and Hsiao Bi-khim, and PFP Legislator Chang Hsiao-feng.
Chang Hsiao-feng, who is not a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said that she has never been to the Dongsha Islands and is delighted to have this chance to go. She said she is interested in checking the status of ecological and fisheries protection in the Dongsha Islands.
Tsai Huang-lang noted that recently strained relations in the South China Sea have raised tensions.
He noted that Dongsha is the sovereign territory of the ROC and that the visits by legislators and other to Dongsha are a declaration of the sovereignty of the ROC, and are meant to encourage the morale of the officers and men stationed on Dongsha.
