Willis abandons Olympics 5,000m bid

Olympic 1,500-meter silver medalist Nick Willis of New Zealand has abandoned plans to also contest the 5,000 meters at this year's Games in London.
Willis, who finished third in Beijing but was promoted to second when the winner failed a doping test, had planned on preparing for both the 1,500 and the 5,000 as a way to variate his training regime.
But Willis announced via Twitter on Thursday he had abandoned plan.
Willis said "the 1,500 meters will now be my sole focus of the Olympics and we have a great plan set in place. The 5,000 meters was a nice idea, but decided that we don't need to keep chasing a (qualifying) standard."
