UK gov't, Wikipedia founder to open up research

The British government has asked Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales to help with a program to make all taxpayer funded academic research in Britain available online.
Universities and Science Minister David Willetts will say that people have the right to access publicly funded research at a speech to the Publishers Association on Wednesday. He has asked Wales to help develop ways of storing and distributing research data and articles.
At the moment, most research is published in academic journals that cost university libraries and researchers hundreds of pounds (dollars). Academics and researchers say publishing companies such as Elsevier should make research papers more widely available.
