UK secures extradition of fraudster from Spain

Fugitive multimillionaire fraudster, and a former leading donor to the U.K.'s Liberal Democrat party, Michael Brown has been directed by a U.K. court to begin serving a seven-year sentence after he was extradited from Spain.
Brown was sentenced by Southwark Crown Court in absentia in 2008 on fraud charges. Four former clients, including an ex-chairman of Manchester United football club, had accused Brown duping them out of about 40 million pounds ($65 million).
Britain's Crown Prosecution Service said that Brown had appeared at London's Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday, where he was formally informed of the sentence imposed in his absence.
It added that prosecutors are "pleased" to have secured Brown's extradition from Spain on Monday on a European arrest warrant.
Brown was deported from the Dominican Republic to Spain in January and arrested in Madrid on April 21.
