Man held for London shopping district standoff

A man at the center of a three-hour-long standoff that closed part of one of Britain's busiest shopping streets was kept in custody Monday.
Michael Green, 48, was arrested Friday after he allegedly walked into an office building on London's Tottenham Court Road, hurled computers and other equipment out of windows and threatened staff.
Dozens of heavily armed police, snipers and specialist hazard teams closed off a stretch of the street until he was arrested.
Green is accused of five offenses _ possession of a weapon, false imprisonment, making a hoax bomb threat, recklessly endangering lives and criminal damage. He did not apply for bail at the hearing in north London and will be held until his next hearing on July 24.
Prosecutor Emily Maunders asked that Green remain in prison until his next court appearance because of a risk he could commit further offenses or interfere with witnesses.
