Fugitive in Greek match-fixing probe is extradited

The former chairman of Greek club Kavala has been extradited from neighboring Macedonia to face charges of alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal.
Makis Psomiadis was handed over by Macedonian police Monday at the Evzoni border crossing, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Thessaloniki.
Psomiadis was arrested in Greece last year on suspicion of membership in a criminal organization, blackmail, bribery and match-fixing. But he was released pending trial and fled to Macedonia, where police arrested him in November.
Topflight clubs Kavala and Volos were thrown out of Greece's professional leagues last summer over the match-fixing scandal. Psomiadis has denied any wrongdoing, and described himself as a "political prisoner."
