Moderate earthquake jolts eastern Taiwan

Taipei, April 9 (CNA) An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale shook eastern Taiwan at 5:43 a.m. Monday, but did not cause any damage, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB). The earthquake's epicenter was located at sea 73.8 kilometers east of Hualien County on Taiwan's eastern coast at a depth of 10 km, the CWB's Seismology Center said. The strongest tremors, which posted an intensity of three, were felt in Hualien's Yenliao and Yilan County's Nanao, the center said. (By Chen Shun-hsieh and Sofia Wu)
