Poll: Germany's upstart Pirates on a roll

A new poll shows support for Germany's upstart Pirate Party rising to a record 12 percent after its second success in a state election _ underlining its arrival as a force in national politics.
The Pirates, with a platform based on near-total transparency and Internet freedom, first won seats in a state legislature in Berlin last September. On March 25 they won seats in Saarland, in western Germany.
That comes as German politicians start looking toward national elections expected in September 2013.
A poll of 2,503 people for Stern magazine published Tuesday, conducted after the Saarland vote, showed their support rising 5 points over the previous week. It gave a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 points.
