IOC approves British nationality for Yamile Aldama

The IOC has formally approved the change to British nationality of triple jumper Yamile Aldama, clearing the way for her to compete for her adopted country at the London Olympics.
The 39-year-old Aldama has already been competing for Britain, winning gold at last weekend's world indoor championships in Istanbul. She received British citizenship two years ago, but still required IOC approval to compete for her new country in the Olympics.
The IOC agreed to reduce the three-year waiting period outlined in the Olympic Charter. The IOC said agreement had been reached by the international federation and the British Olympic Association.
Aldama was born in Cuba and has also competed for Sudan.
The IOC also approved German cyclist Philip Hindes' switch to British nationality.
