British arms-to-Iran suspect requests bond in US

A retired British businessman accused of trying to sell missile batteries to Iran has asked a U.S. judge to release him on bond.
Attorney Kent Schaffer said at a Friday detention hearing that Christopher Tappin will agree with any measures the court imposes for his release.
Tappin surrendered to U.S. marshals and was escorted to Texas last week after fighting extradition from the United Kingdom for two years.
Tappin's case sparked a debate in the U.K. over whether British and American citizens are treated equally under the extradition treaty between the two countries.
The 65-year-old retiree is accused of trying to buy specialized batteries for Hawk missiles for $25,000 from undercover American agents with the intention of exporting them to Iran. Two other men have been convicted in the case.
