Group urges UAE not to expel Syrian protesters

An international human rights organization is calling on the United Arab Emirates to revoke its decision to expel dozens of Syrians who demonstrated against the regime in Damascus.
The UAE backs international efforts to halt President Bashar Assad's crackdown on Syria's year-long uprising. But it also maintains severe restrictions on political activity and bans protests.
Human Rights Watch says the UAE questioned hundreds of Syrians after about 2,000 people demonstrated near the Syrian consulate in Dubai on Feb. 10.
Since then, at least 50 protesters have had their residency permits canceled, giving them and their families less than 10 days to leave the UAE, the group said in a statement Friday.
The group has no information if any were deported to Syria.
