Spain orders extradition of Mubarak associate

Spain's National Court has ordered the extradition to Egypt of a close associate to ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak who was being held in Spain on suspicion of money laundering and corruption.
Hussein Salem was arrested in a wealthy Madrid suburb in June and $47 million ((EURO)33 million) of his possessions were frozen as police also seized homes worth $14 million ((EURO)10 million), including some in the jet-set resort of Marbella.
The money was allegedly obtained illegally in Egypt and sent to Salem's family accounts in Spain, the court order said Friday.
Salem left Egypt a week before Mubarak was forced to resign in February 2011, and protesters have pressed for the prosecution of Mubarak and his cronies for years of alleged abuse and corruption.
