After Maldives former President Mohamed Nasheed offered the resignation on Feb. 7, new leader Mohammed Waheed Hassan and the former vice president, was sworn in Tuesday and that moreover, claimed Wednesday for the formation of a national unity government in his Indian Ocean nation even as police and soldiers kept watch over his predecessor at an undisclosed location.







Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pledged supports to new Maldivian President Mohamed Waheed. "I take this opportunity to extend my warm felicitations to you on your assumption of office as president of the Maldives," Manmohan Singh wrote in the letter, the text of which was released to the media on Wednesday.
