UK court to rule on legality of forced retirement

Britain's Supreme Court will rule on whether a law firm had the right to make one of its partners retire when he turned 65 in a case that could have wide ranging implications for how companies set their staff's retirement age.
The case looks at law firm Clarkson, Wright and Jakes' decision to retire one of their partners, Leslie Seldon, at 65.
The company says it makes partners retire at that age to give younger employees opportunities for promotion. Seldon argues that workers should not retire if they are still capable of working.
British law changed last year and companies can no longer automatically make workers retire at 65 but Seldon's case began around five years ago before the new law took effect.
The case begins Tuesday and is expected to last three days.
