Hon Hai's year-end party to be charity event

Taipei, Jan. 13 (CNA) Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the world's largest contract maker of consumer electronics, will change the format of its year-end party from a traditional extravaganza to a charity event to promote corporate social responsibility, the company said on Friday. The carnival-like event, slated to take place at Taipei Zoo and the adjacent Daonan Football Stadium on Sunday, will feature a charity sale gala, donations, concerts and other performances, according to Hon Hai. Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou said recently that companies should not cut back on charitable donations because of the current global economic uncertainty. He stressed that Hon Hai would rather cut its entertainment expenses than reduce contributions to charities. The Yonglin Foundation, which he established to help underprivileged groups and disadvantaged children to pursue education, will double its charitable funds this year, from NT$350 million (US$11.67 million) in 2011 to over NT$700 million, he said.
