Taipei, Jan. 9 (CNA) The National Science Council (NSC) approved on Monday the plans of eight companies to invest NT$1.64 billion (US$54.2 million) in Taiwan's three major science parks. According to the NSC, which has jurisdiction over the parks, four of the eight companies, including Gigarams Semiconductor Device Corp and AU Optronics Corp. affiliate BriView Corporation, will set up facilities in the Hsinchu Science Park. Japan's Hitachi Chemical Electronic Materials (Taiwan) Co. and U.S.-based ZYGO Corporation will invest in the Central Taiwan Science Park and Daiwoo Co. and Su Jing Electronic Material Taiwan Co. will set up plants in the Southern Taiwan Science Park. Meanwhile, the NSC said there are two other investment plans currently under evaluation estimated to be worth over NT$30 billion.
