Philippines wants accord with rebels in 3 months

A Philippine negotiator says the government and the country's largest Muslim rebel group should forge a peace accord within the first three months of this year.
Chief government negotiator Marvic Leonen expressed optimism Monday as peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front resumed in Malaysia, which has been helping broker the yearslong negotiations.
Leonen said an early agreement will allow the two sides to implement it and make adjustments before current President Benigno Aquino III ends his term in 2016.
Moro rebel Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar says the guerrillas share the government's optimism but added that any accord should be strong enough to draw wide acceptance and discourage other rebellions.
