Court orders liquidation of French ferry operator

A French court has ordered the liquidation of a loss-making French ferry operator whose rescue had become a hot-button political issue in France's presidential election campaign.
In a ruling Monday, the Paris Court of Commerce rejected a plan by SeaFrance's employees to save the firm by setting up a worker cooperative to run the company.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy said last week that trying to save the jobs of SeaFrance's 880 employees was his "duty" as president. Jobs and the economy are leading voter concerns ahead of presidential elections in April and May.
SeaFrance operates three passenger ferries across the English Channel between Calais and Dover.
