Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti is already making his mark at the big-spending club by using a GPS tracking system to monitor players in training and encouraging them to modify their eating habits.
The former Chelsea manager, who takes charge of his first official match in the French Cup on Sunday, believes GPS is an essential tool to improve the fitness of his players and ensure they avoid overexertion.
"It's important to have data during a training session, because (otherwise) we can't control the load of the training session," Ancelotti said Saturday. "First to improve the performance of the player, second to avoid injury."
Ancelotti is also keen to improve the dietary habits of his squad by encouraging players to eat breakfast and lunch at the club's Camp des Loges training camp rather than at home.
"I think it's very important to eat properly before and after training," he said.
Ancelotti won the Champions League as both a player and coach with AC Milan, and the 52-year-old Italian also guided Chelsea to the Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season in charge.
He was fired last season after Chelsea finished second in the league.
Following a midweek loss to Milan in a friendly, Ancelotti's first official game in charge of PSG is away to amateur club Locmine _ a team four divisions below PSG and of which Ancelotti admits he knows little about.
"I have seen one match, it was a not good video (quality)," he said.
Although Ancelotti wants PSG to go "all the way" in the French Cup, he has set his sights far higher.
"We're working to improve the quality of our play and of the players. We want to win the league. We're in first place at the moment and we plan to stay there," he said at a news conference. "We want to build a competitive team and we have the time to do so. Of course we want to play in the Champions League."
PSG has spent (EURO)82 million ($116 million) on players already this season but missed out on signing former England captain David Beckham.
Ancelotti will have more funds to spend and has been linked to several big names, including Milan's Brazil striker, Alexandre Pato, and Real Madrid midfielder Kaka. He previously worked with both players at Milan.
"We have one more month, we have time," was all Ancelotti would say when asked which players he wants to sign.
