5 Grenada police accused in killing awarded bail

A judge in Grenada has granted bail to five police officers accused of manslaughter in the beating death of a Canadian man.
A judge also ordered them to surrender their passports, report themselves daily to authorities and avoid visiting the police station where they worked.
None of the officers had posted the $37,000 bond as of late Friday morning.
Hundreds of people protested the ruling outside the courthouse.
The policemen are accused of beating to death 39-year-old Oscar Bartholomew of Toronto on Dec. 26 after he hugged a plainclothes female officer and lifted her off the ground in front of a police station, apparently confusing her with an old friend.
The suspects are scheduled for a Jan. 27 hearing.
