Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has named several of her party's old guard to her new Cabinet, saying it is critical to have an experienced body to face the island's economic challenges.
Former security minister Peter Phillips was appointed finance minister on Friday. Arnold Nicholson will oversee foreign affairs, Roger Clarke will handle agriculture and Omar Davies will be in charge of transportation as part of a 20-member Cabinet.
Simpson Miller also created eight non-Cabinet state minister positions, saying it would allow young politicians to shadow more seasoned ministers.
Simpson Miller was sworn in on Thursday after her People's National Party defeated the Jamaica Labor Party, seizing 42 seats in the 63-seat legislature.
