Chile blames deadly fires on Mapuche Indian terror

Chile's interior minister says many of the wildfires burning out of control in Patagonia have been intentionally set, and is blaming a Mapuche Indian group for starting one that killed seven firefighters.
Minister Rodrigo Hinzpeter on Friday blamed the "Coordinadora Arauco Malleco" Mapuche group for the blaze that killed the firefighters.
Chile's government has cracked down on small groups of Mapuche activists who periodically launch violent attacks on forestry company property.
President Sebastian Pinera also says the wildfires appear to be what he characterizes as acts of "terror."
Regional authorities found about 50 separate starting points for the blaze that killed the firefighters, which they said were clear signs of arson.
