Spanish village welcomes decision about waste site

A small Spanish village that has been chosen as the site of a new nuclear waste storage site has welcomed the decision, but nearby towns aren't so happy.
Spain's new conservative prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, and his Cabinet decided on Friday to put the plant in Villar de Canas, a village of 400 residents 130 kilometers (80 miles) southeast of Madrid.
Its mayor, Jose Maria Saizo, said Friday that the village feels like it has hit the lottery, given all the hardships that are being caused by Spain's economic crisis.
But neighboring towns are considering challenging the decision in court.
Alvaro Martinez Chana, the mayor of nearby Almonacid del Marquesado, said Saturday the towns are weighing that option because they don't want to sleep "a few kilometers (miles) from a nuclear garbage dump."
