Adu to train with Spanish club, eyeing move

Major League Soccer player Freddy Adu will train with Rayo Vallecano with an eye to joining the Spanish club.
Adu, who plays for the Philadelphia Union in the North American league, will train with Rayo for 12 days starting Friday.
"This is the first step, that he comes and trains and gets to know us and the club, and we get to know him," Rayo sporting director Felipe Minambres told The Associated Press on Thursday. "He'll come and train and we'll see how he gets on and then we'll make a decision of whether or not he stays.
"The best thing is that he comes and trains, feels relaxed and enjoys it. That's the only thing we want."
Adu, who has played for the United States national team, confirmed his trip to Spain through his Twitter account.
The 22-year-old Adu previously played for European clubs Benfica, Monaco, Aris and Cauykur Rizespor of Turkey.
Adu wouldn't be the first American player to sign with Rayo. Former U.S. goalkeeper Kasey Keller previously played for the topflight club for two seasons from 1999-2001.
