PLA sends soldiers to North Korean border: human rights center

Hong Kong, Dec 19(CNA): The Chinese military has sent 2,000 soldiers to the border close to North Korea shortly after the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, according to a human rights center. News sources provided by the Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy to some local press revealed that the People's Liberation Army sent some 2,000 soldiers to several places on the border Monday. The main purpose is to prevent possible refugees flooding from across the border, the sources said. All the soldiers came from the "16th Army," the sources said. The center said that at the end of this month, some 30,000 additional PLA soldiers will be stationed at the border. (By Stanley Cheung)
