Poland fires embassy staff for cigarette smuggling

Poland's Foreign Ministry says it has fired two employees at its embassy in Moscow for attempting to smuggle $15,000 worth of cigarettes into Poland.
Ministry spokesman Marcin Bosacki said Monday that a receptionist and a supplies sector employee were fired after Polish border guards caught them trying to smuggle some 100,000 cigarettes worth 50,000 zlotys ($15,000) into the country in a car with diplomatic registration plates.
They were caught in Terespol, a Polish city on the border with Belarus.
The two are also to be fined and will face a court trial on charges of attempted smuggling.
Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski posted a link on Twitter to a report on the dismissals with a curt comment: "A warning."
