Kuwait: No plans to host more US troops

Kuwait's acting prime minister is throwing doubts on American proposals to station at least 4,000 additional soldiers in the Gulf nation following the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq.
Sheik Jaber Al Mubarak Al Sabah, who is also defense minister, says there is no plan to increase U.S. troop levels in the country. He adds that Kuwait will be used only as a transit point for forces leaving Iraq.
The comments Sunday on the official Kuwait News Agency appear to signal a blow to U.S. efforts to boost forces in the Gulf, where Arab allies fear Iran's expanding military reach. But U.S. officials have said negotiations are still under way with Kuwait.
Thousands of U.S. troops have been in Kuwait since the 1991 war that drove Iraqi forces out of the oil-rich Gulf state.
