The 2011 Hsinchu Military dependents’ village Art Festival opens on Nov. 5! Secretary-general, Wu Chung-Chi, cosplayed as the “Jade Emperor” and invited everyone to come to the Black Bat Squadron Museum to taste the delicacies, enjoy Chinese Opera and take part in many other cultural and art activities.
It has been two years since the opening of the Black Bat Squadron Museum. In addition to the “Hsinchu Military dependents’ village Art Festival- Chinese Opera”, “Black Bat Squadron Picture Book- My Super Mission” will be launched as well. On behalf of Hsinchu City Mayor Hsu Ming-Tsai, Wu Chung-Chi said that there were 46 military dependents’ villages in Hsinchu City, including members of the Navy, Army, and Air Force. With reconstruction of military dependents’ villages and changes in the environment, many residents have moved to apartments. However, the culture, art, and special life styles of the military residences should be preserved and passed down. Furthermore, Wu said, on-site investigations and collection of historical data have been conducted, and the festival is organized into a series of events including exhibitions, performances, and book launches. While the public enjoy the Chinese operas and exhibitions, they can imagine the feeling of the in a military dependents’ village, and recall the memories of the bamboo fences which connect the old and new generations. The Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Lin Jung-chiu says that on Nov. 5 there will be 1500 servings of delicacies from the military dependents’ village available to visitors for free, and he welcomes everyone to visit.
