Era Survey: 70% of Hsinchu citizens support Taiwan Pavilion EXPO 2010

Era Survey was commissioned by the Hsinchu City Government to study the opinions of the public regarding the construction of Taiwan Pavilion Park. The results of a public opinion poll were released today (Nov. 1) at the beam raising ceremony for Taiwan Pavilion Park. The poll shows that 70.4% of all citizens support the construction of Taiwan Pavilion Park. Furthermore, 70.6% of those of Taiwanese (Minnan) extraction, and 72.5% of all Hsinchu citizens agree that construction of the Taiwan Pavilion EXPO will accelerate the development of Hsinchu City and its tourism industry. On the other hand, 72.5% of those of Taiwanese/Minnan extraction and 88.9 % of people in Hsinchu are willing to visit the pavilion.
Asked their impression of the Taiwan Pavilion at EXPO 2010 Shanghai, 58.7% of Taiwanese/Minnan people were positive, and 6% were negative, while 66.4% of all Hsinchu citizens were positive (females more than males) and 4.3% were negative. On the subject of promoting the tourism industry, the approval rate was 70.6% among Taiwanese/Minnan (and higher among 20-29 year olds, students and white-collar, and residents in northern Taoyuan) and 72.5% among Hsinchu citizens (higher for females, 20-29 year olds, military and government workers). 60.4% Taiwanese/Minnan and 63.6% of all Hsinchu citizens (higher for 20-29 year olds) approved of designating Taiwan Pavilion EXPO 2011 as the new landmark of Hsinchu. Mayor Hsu said the Hsinchu City Government will consult this poll as a reference for running Taiwan Pavilion EXPO 2010, correcting its shortcomings, and stimulating city officials and workers to work harder to meet the expectations of the public.
