Google doodle honors Marie Curie on her 144th birth anniversary

The 144th anniversary of the birth of Nobel prize-winning scientist Marie Curie has been celebrated with a Google doodle.

A picture of Marie Curie at her work bench is on Google’s home page Monday. Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the first person to win two Nobel Prizes—in physics and chemistry.

Also, the year 2011 is the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Marie Curie. UN has declared 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry to celebrate her achievements and contributions.

The Polish chemist is famous for her pioneering work on radioactivity and for her important contribution to the fight against cancer.
