Activists say Syrian security forces have killed at least six people in central Syria on the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday.
Five of the deaths Sunday occurred in the flashpoint central province of Homs that has turned into one of the main centers of protest and reprisal during the 7-month uprising against President Bashar Assad.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says troops killed a sixth civilian in the city of Hama during raids in the restive region.
Troops also fired live ammunition to disperse protesters near Damascus and in the country's north. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The violence is adding to fears that a peace plan brokered by the Arab League was unraveling only days after Damascus agreed to halt its crackdown.
