West Indies wins toss, opts to bat against India

West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss Sunday and opted to bat first against India in the opening test of a three-game series.
India, which lost its world no. 1 ranking to England earlier this season, named two debutants: off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and pace bowler Umesh Yadav.
India has a new-look bowling attack but its batting has been boosted by the return of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, all of whom were ruled out of recent one-day engagements due to injuries.
West Indies, which won a preceding two-test test series in Bangladesh 1-0, has left out Adrian Barath, Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach and Shane Shillingford.
