An unspecified injury has forced world record-holder Nurcan Taylan to be omitted from Turkey's team for the world weightlifting championships in Paris.
The Anatolia agency, citing coach Talat Unlu, says Taylan was dropped on Friday, a day after she complained of being injured in training.
The agency says Taylan was Turkey's biggest hope for a gold medal.
Taylan, in the 48-kilogram class, set a world record by lifting 121 kilos in the clean and jerk at last year's worlds.
She won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
The worlds in Paris start next Friday.
