Iraqi police: Bombs kill 4 north of Baghdad

Iraqi police say a series of blasts targeting the house of a leader of anti-al-Qaida fighters have killed four people north of Baghdad.
Police officials said four bombs were planted early Saturday near the house of Yassin Essa Dawoud, a local leader in the government-backed Awakening Councils, in the town of Taji about 12 miles (20 kilometers) north of the capital.
A doctor at Taji's hospital confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
Insurgents frequently target Iraq's security forces and their allies. The attacks appear aimed at undermining confidence in the Shiite-dominated leadership as the U.S. withdraws all of its 33,000 troops from Iraq by the end of the year.
