Former NBA player Jose Ortiz has pleaded guilty to drug charges and has been ordered to provide 600 hours of community service.
Ortiz was accused of possession with intent to distribute marijuana after federal agents raided his home in June and seized 218 marijuana plants at his house along with 40 rounds of ammunition.
U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez said Ortiz is expected to speak at schools across Puerto Rico about the dangers of substance abuse. He pleaded guilty Friday. A sentencing date has not been set.
Ortiz played at Oregon State before spending two seasons with the Utah Jazz. He also played in Spain and Greece and was on the Puerto Rican national team for more than 20 years, appearing in four Olympics.
