US envoys to travel to Myanmar next week

Two senior U.S. officials will visit Myanmar next week to encourage more political prisoner releases and democratic reforms in the Asian nation.
Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael Posner will arrive Tuesday on a four-day visit and meet with senior government officials and representatives of civil society and international organizations.
Posner will be joined by U.S. special envoy to Myanmar Derek Mitchell. It will be Mitchell's third visit to Myanmar, also known as Burma, in less than two months.
Washington sees encouraging signs of new openness in Myanmar, which was under direct military rule for decades until this year. This month authorities released about 200 political prisoners but hundreds more are still held.
