What iOS 5 Means for the iPad and iPad 2
With the newly released iPhone 4S the series of devices that support Apple's new iOS 5 is now complete; the new operating system can be installed on both iPad versions, on the third and fourth generation iPod, as well as on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S.
After this upgrade is made to all these devices by syncing via USB, iOS 5 will make this method obsolete, since one of the new features is software updates over the air as well as the ability to sync with iTunes over your Wi-Fi connection.
Three new apps brought by iOS 5 are iMessages, Newsstand and Reminders. The first one to take the stand, iMessages, will allow users to exchange messages with other Apple users via iPhone, iPad or iPod.
It has been noted that Apple has made it possible for customers to bypass carriers' text messaging services using this feature for free over Wi-Fi, though on 3G networks a cost for data usage would be incurred.
With Newsstand Apple provides a customisable virtual magazine for users, while the Reminders feature is perceived more like a "companion app for Calendar".
