Philippine police capture suspected militant

Philippine police have captured a suspected militant who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of three international Red Cross workers on a southern island two years ago.
National police spokesman Agrimero Cruz says Adzhar Patta Mawalil was arrested on Jolo island Tuesday by soldiers and police.
Cruz said Wednesday that Mawalil was a member of the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf group that kidnapped Filipino, Italian and Swiss members of the international Red Cross in January 2009. The three were later freed reportedly after payment of a large ransom.
Their kidnapping was allegedly masterminded by Albader Parad who was accused of beheadings and other high-profile abductions. Government troops killed Parad in a raid on his hideout last year.
