Architect of Guatemala's National Theater dies

The architect who designed Guatemala's majestic National Theater has died from gastrointestinal problems. He was 83.
The Central American country's cultural ministry says artist Efrain Recinos died in a Guatemala City hospital, where he had been taken with an ulcer.
He designed the contemporary National Theater and fine-arts complex around it inspired by Mayan culture. The hilltop white buildings' design look like a jaguar's profile and have become part of the capital city's landscape. Completed in 1978, the theater was later declared National Heritage.
A memorial services is being held Sunday at his masterpiece complex.
