Aussie plan to deport asylum seekers set to fail

A government plan to deport asylum seekers to Malaysia in a bid to deter others from trying to reach Australia by boat appears destined to rejected by Parliament.
Australia's High Court scuttled the plan when judges ruled last month that the government was exceeding its legal powers.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard said Tuesday she will introduce legislation to Parliament this week that would give the government power to send asylum seekers to any country it chose.
This is despite the opposition coalition and the Greens party promising to reject them. The ruling Labor Party cannot pass bills without the support of either the opposition or Greens.
Gillard says she wants history to record how opposition lawmakers vote.
