Romanian court: Free wife of African diplomat

A Romanian court says the wife of a Congolese diplomat, both of whom are charged with cigarette smuggling, can be freed.
The Court of Appeals in Timisoara ruled Thursday that Esther Pascaline and three Serbians can be immediately released. No bond was requested, but they are not allowed to leave the city nor contact each other.
Pascaline's husband is Marc Marius Itela Elombola, who serves in the Democratic Republic of Congo's embassy in Serbia. Prosecutors have charged Elombola in absentia.
Pascaline has said her husband told her to accompany a Serbian man and deliver the cigarettes in Romania for which she was due to receive US$2,260 (euro1,600). She has not entered a plea.
In June, Romanian authorities found 1,800 cartons of cigarettes in her car.
