Rights group urges EU to admit post-9/11 abuses

Amnesty International says the European Union must acknowledge that some of its members colluded in the U.S. program of torture and illegal detention in secret prisons.
The group said Wednesday the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States is an opportunity for the EU to break its decade-long silence on the abuses.
Other European institutions and rights groups also have urged those nations to come clean about the U.S.-led rendition and secret detentions.
Last week, Europe's human rights chief launched a blistering attack on such counterterrorism actions, accusing European governments of helping the United States commit "countless" crimes in the past 10 years.
